iDempiere Mobile Interface
The purpose of this discussion is to help you access iDempiere from a mobile device. There are two options for mobile access:
- Using your mobile device's browser to access iDempiere
- Using a dedicated mobile interface created by Adaxa
Mobile Device Web Browser
Here are my thoughts about accessing iDempiere through a browser from a device with a small screen:
- The login screen is cumbersome because the default layout assumes a monitor. You can change the login screen to remove the left information bar. Doing so makes the login process easier to navigate. (see community note)
- iDempiere uses ZK to render the user interface. ZK interacts differently with different mobile browsers. As of this writing (20170821), I prefer Firefox on mobile device due to how it uses scrolling options. I tried Chrome, Safari, Opera and Firefox.
- Generally speaking, iDempiere 4.1 behaves better in a mobile browser than iDempiere 3.1; however, iDempiere 3.1 in Firefox is definitely usable.
Adaxa Mobile Installation
iDempiere wiki Information: http://wiki.idempiere.org/en/Plugin:_ADAXA_Mobile
Steps:
- Download the latest version of the jar from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/red1/files/p2/Mobile
- Note that many of the recent downloads are for iDempiere 3.0. You will need to download a version from 2014 to work with iDempiere 2.1. Here is a link to a know good version.
- Install via the Felix Console (www.YourURL.com:8080 - look for Felix Console link). Please note there will be a 5 second pause after you click "install". Please be patient.
- Navigate to www.YourURL.com:8080/mobile/ to log in after the installation is complete.
Adaxa Mobile Discussion
As of August 2014, the mobile user interface is in "good" shape. It functions for basic navigation and entry. The best uses of the mobile interface are for situations like:
- Creating a simple UI for mobile devices like intelligent scanners. You can create a very simple version of an inventory move window that can be executed by a wireless scanner to make moving inventory in a warehouse very easy and efficient.
- Creating simple UI's for reviewing critical information. You can create a UI for a mobile phone for call center managers to see vital statistics including average wait time, user satisfaction, etc.....
